Spellings Year 3
SPELLING WORDS - YEAR 3 - SUMMER 1
Literacy: Spelling Words
On the following pages you will find the spelling words that we will be covering each week. Please use the say, look, cover, write, check method as used in Year 2 for learning spellings. The expectation is that children should not just learn the words for the weekly spelling test, but use these words in their writing in school and understand their meanings. Please help your child learn the words that correspond to their group. We suggest your child practises their spellings for ten minutes a day.
In addition, we are also including copies of the high frequency words that all children are expected to be able to read and spell in Year 3. Please continue to revise and test your children on these words at home, as appropriate.
Weekly spellings for Picasso, Da Vinci, Van Gogh and Constable
Each week we will test a random 10 out of the 16 spellings. This spelling scheme aims to consolidate the children’s knowledge and application of spelling, focussing on the specific spelling patterns within the weekly word clusters. For additional spelling practice, or to extend their development, please use the High Frequency Spelling Word Banks at the end of the Home Guide or test their understanding using words that use the same pattern.

Literacy: High Frequency Spelling Words
It would be very beneficial to your child if you could frequently get them to read, revise, spell and use these words. They are essential to the development of their writing.
